In 1948 from the remains of his family's shoe business in Herzogenaurach, Germany,  Rudolf Dassler founded PUMA.

Throughout the early years PUMA focused heavily on sport, especially football and running.  In more recent years the sportswear Brand has recognised that with sport comes a lifestyle and has created a new unique Brand positioning, "sportlifestyle".

PUMA is now the fastest growing sports Brand in the world, recently winning the Drapers "Footwear Brand of the Year 2003" award and being named a 2003 "Cool Brand Leader".
