Global surf brand, Rip Curl will open its first UK outlet store in May 2008 at Gunwharf Quays, Land Securities' £200 million mixed-use development on the waterfront at Portsmouth Harbour.
Rip Curl has taken unit 26 at 1624 sq ft close to Central Square and will join other outdoor and lifestyle brands already at the scheme including Fat Face, Jack Wills, French Connection, Nike, Mambo, Mountain Warehouse, O'Neill, Paul Smith, Animal, Reef, Ted Baker, Tog 24, White Stuff, Vans and Timberland.
Rip Curl currently has five stores in the UK and is on a mission to open more, planning to open at least two a year for the next five years. The signing of Rip Curl's first outlet is another first for Gunwharf Quays with other brands such as Jack Wills, Guess and Mambo choosing to successfully launch their first UK outlet stores at the scheme.
Commenting on the new store, Rip Curl's country manager Paul Copson said: "We chose Gunwharf Quays for our first UK outlet as it has the profile and reputation, both geographically and strategically that we are looking for. It evokes the spirit of the outdoors and attracts a young and vibrant public with the centre's largest customer group the 25-44 year olds. We look forward to successful trading."
Phil Cottingham, portfolio director at Land Securities said, "Rip Curl is another first for Gunwharf Quays - the fact that such a globally renowned and successful brand has chosen to open its first outlet store in our centre is a great endorsement and will further enrich the current tenant mix."
